Vintage Sears Craftsman Air Compressor 283-1842, 1930s, Packard Motor, Works
Repaired wired connection to test and functioned until belt broke. Very nice space age type design with a design Pat no. All components appear to be original based on research. Desirable flame handle is present and intact.
Sheet metal tool platform is present, but does have a bent section that would need to flexed back. From research this was made for Sears by Electric SprayIt Co.
Back in the 30's-40s. The motor is a Packard motor 1/4 HP, 1750 RPM, 5 amp and runs nicely.
Full motor ID tag is present and pictured. Followed instructions for proper lubrication adding oil as instructed and air flowed, but I do not have a air pressure gauge to indicate amount of pressure. Original platform is 20 1/2 long and 8 wide appearing to be originally red in color as remnants of color are present.
Stands approximately 11 high overall. Turning the compressor pulley wheel generates air and I thought top brass valve was a flow/no flow valve, but it does not appear to close. This brass may just regulate the amount of air and not be on/off valve. One of the rubber stand-offs on bottom of platform is missing. Beautiful design with clean lines and unique look.
